The Vila Marachique complex on the outskirts of Alvor is a small recently built urbanization on the highest ground around with its own roadway nearly to the sea. It comprises 8 low apartment blocks erected in 5 acres of tropical park, a sea of green.

The main attraction and the envy of the whole Portimao region is the lagoon size swimming pool and swim up pool bar in the middle of the gardens. There is also a children’s pool a play area a café and reception.

Just outside the complex are shops and several good restaurants Por do Sol Xico Kotemisse Hof van Holland and Miss Pasta

Alvor is a leisurely 1 hour’s drive 50km, due West of Faro airport along the A 22 highway. The highway itself is always free of heavy traffic even in mid summer. However since Vila Marachique is central car hire is not essential as cheap taxis are available everywhere and a regular bus service stops outside the complex. Even a leisurely walk is a possibility. Bicycling is not recommended at all.
